Saddler’s Court Galleryoffers the work of more than 100 Tasmanian artists and crafts people. We choose each piece personally, not in terms of what is fashionable or what sells best, but according to its ability to reflect something of Tasmania. |
John Fisher-ThomasBorn in Brisbane, John served in the army then studied art in Perth and Brisbane. For thirty years he painted using oil paints whilst living in Western Australia and Queensland, also teaching art in Queensland during those years. Due to unforseen circumstances painting was then set aside for a number of years. After moving with his family to Tasmania in 1985, John was inspired by the beautiful scenery to take up his brushes again. This time he switched to Watercolours because he found that it was a very expressive medium to handle, with its speed of drying and great luminosity. He started tutoring for Adult Education and the University of the Third Age (U3A). Since then he has also started several small art groups which are active in the Hobart area.
John has paintings and limited edition prints of his work in many countries now. He claims that “he is certainly not a prolific ‘production line artist’ and will only paint for pleasure”.
