Saddler’s Court Galleryoffers the work of more than 100 Tasmanian artists and crafts people. We choose each piece personally, not in terms of what is fashionable or what sells best, but according to its ability to reflect something of Tasmania. |
David Hopkins
A third generation artist, David is first and foremost a Tasmanian. He shows his affection for this state in his watercolour paintings of its best loved villages, towns, landscapes and of its native flora and fauna. However, his favourite subject matter is fishing boats at their moorings and so he produces many paintings of boats. David has a wealth of experience in graphic art, with its beginnings in litho transfer stones to make apple case labels, zinc plates for railway posters and the development of the famous “glass and a half” slogan and image for Cadbury’s. He also has many other achievements as writer and illustrator and has produced philatelic material, including postage stamps. Also, using his talents and experience in art he established “Taswegia”, a business which since 1985 markets high quality Tasmanian giftware, cards and stationary. A regular exhibitor in Tasmania, David has so far had over 50 solo exhibitions of his paintings.
