Saddler’s Court Galleryoffers the work of more than 100 Tasmanian artists and crafts people. We choose each piece personally, not in terms of what is fashionable or what sells best, but according to its ability to reflect something of Tasmania. |
Danny BensonBorn in Hobart in 1945, Danny initially worked as a carpenter until, at the age of 42 he headed off to University as a mature age student. There he gained an Associate Diploma of Fine Art and Design, a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, and a Diploma of Education. Danny started painting while at university and later when he began teaching. Retiring from teaching in 2003, he now concentrates on painting full time. Danny’s work is a little unusual. It portrays his sense of humour and is surrealistic and endowed with intellectual content. He specialises in depicting the absurdity of the human condition and human desires and needs. Although there is an underlying seriousness to Danny’s work, a nice touch of optimism can be found in his paintings.
Having been a fairly regular exhibitor in Tasmania since 1993, Danny’s work has become well known, particularly his paintings involving the elegantly poised and sophisticated domestic cat.
