Leonard Benson
"Femme"
Leonard Benson is a Hobart artist whose work could never be called conventional.
It has been described as
"dramatic...expressionistic....uninhibited....spontaneous....raw.....
brings with him a refreshing pictorial naivety....powerful, and rewarding."
This exhibition will be no exception.
Twenty four head and shoulder studies of women
make up the show called simply "Femme."
It is interesting that Leonard should use the French language for this title, so
that we are prepared for the aura of mystery, the elegance and the sensuous
quality that it evokes. Rich colour, texture, and striking composition give each
painting, as well as its subject, individuality of character.
While this web site gives some idea of the effect, face to face reality is
beyond compare.
On show at Saddler's Court Gallery from Sunday May 18.
Continues until June 3.
Hours are 10:00 to 5:00 daily
Below are some of the works which will be on
show. Image size is unframed.
Colour is as close as possible to the paintings themselves, but may vary from
one computer to another.
