Jenny
Young
Born
in Derbyshire , England, in 1941, Jenny remembers well the many times that
she and her father used to visit Museums and Art Galleries. The
encouragement she received from her family led her to study at the
Nottingham and Bradford Colleges of Art and she graduated in 1963 in
painting and printmaking, having undertaken also sculpture, basic design,
art history, anatomy , drawing , ceramics and other crafts.
Jenny came to Tasmania in 1964 and has taught in a number of
schools. Her Adult Education classes were extremely popular, and there are
still many people who are hoping that she will take them up again now that
her youngest child is at school.
She has had many solo and group Exhibitions in this Gallery and in
Hobart over the years and is represented in a number of public and private
collections.
Commenting on her work, she speaks about her “fascination with the colour and texture of the Tasmanian landscape, the changes in light and mood”, and also her attempts " to catch a moment in time; to search for the elusive something that adds magic to a painting and gives it soul."
