BLAKEBROUGH

CERAMIC DESIGN

Ceramic designer/maker Les Blakebrough trained in Australia and Japan. His classic forms in pristine porcelain grace every major gallery in Australia, and have won international gold medals.

Blakebrough’s new developments in porcelain have resulted in a very white, translucent porcelain he calls Southern Ice.

This very beautiful material is the basis of all his new work, and because of its special qualities, some unusual methods of decoration have been developed on the unglazed surface using water soluble metallic salts, giving the soft blues and buff colours that have become the hallmark of his work.

Another decorative method used with the Southern Ice porcelain has been to deep-etch the surface and polish the high spots, leaving a beautiful white on white pattern.

Made with care and great skill, his fine ceramic pieces are gifts for important occasions.
